Alcaraz's US Open Title Is More Improbable Than Raducanu's," Says Isner

Alcaraz's US Open Title Is More Improbable Than Raducanu's, Says Isner

John Isner offered a unique analysis: according to him, Carlos Alcaraz's run at the 2025 US Open surpasses Emma Raducanu's feat in 2021.

On one hand, Emma Raducanu, the surprise heroine of the 2021 US Open, came through qualifying and was crowned without dropping a single set. On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz, an already established star on the tour, dominated the 2025 US Open by surrendering only one set, in the final, against world number one Jannik Sinner.

For John Isner, a former world top 10 player, the choice is clear. These remarks were made on the podcast "Nothing Major."

"I find what Alcaraz did more impressive. These are two comparable titles. But what Alcaraz did is more improbable. Even though Raducanu's story was truly remarkable, in terms of pure level, what Carlos did is even crazier, judges Isner.

It's a weird comparison really. I'm not sure I even agree at all that's it's more improbable. As much as I can be critical of Rad, that is perhaps because she achieved something so mind bogglingly improbably when winning the USO as a qualifier, that it may take a lifetime to see something similar and something she only could achieve due to underlying talent (that she now cannot unlock through poor decisions). Yes Alc was on a two week purple patch, but we have seen that with nadal, djoko, fed, sampras etc etc etc.
