Venus Williams on Serena's Comeback: 'She Knows What She's Doing'
At 44, Serena Williams Returns to WTA at Queen's in Doubles with Victoria Mboko; Venus Williams Offers Insight on Her Sister's Form
Serena Williams is coming out of retirement. The 44-year-old American, who played the last match of her career in the third round of the 2022 US Open against Ajla Tomljanovic, will return to the WTA tour at next week's grass-court tournament in Queen's.
The winner of 23 Grand Slam singles titles will play doubles alongside Victoria Mboko in London. Present in Paris to cover the tournament as a consultant for TNT Sports, Venus Williams (who was supposed to play doubles with Hailey Baptiste, who ultimately withdrew before the first round with a knee injury) was naturally asked by Sam Querrey about her younger sister's return to the court.
"She knows what she's doing, she's naturally gifted"
"I don't know how long she's been training, to be honest, because I haven't seen her on court that often. I haven't seen her hit balls yet, but I have no worries about her shot quality. She knows what she's doing, she's naturally gifted.
I have no doubt that she will play well, even though, once again, I haven't seen her pick up a racket and play much in recent months," assured Venus Williams, a consultant for TNT Sports, about her sister's return.
