Novak Djokovic Sets Roland-Garros Record with 22nd Appearance, Matching Gasquet
At 39, Novak Djokovic Arrives at Roland-Garros with a New Record and Unwavering Ambition. Despite Only One Clay Match This Season, the Serb Still Believes in His Chances in Paris.
Novak Djokovic just blew out his candles. On May 22, the world No. 4 celebrated his 39th birthday. A model of longevity on the ATP tour, the Serb, a finalist at the Australian Open, hopes to achieve the same feat at Roland-Garros over the next two weeks.
Even though he has played only one match on clay in 2026 (a loss in his opening match at the Rome Masters 1000 against Dino Prizmic), the former world No. 1 still believes in his chances at Majors.
Exceptional consistency for Djokovic at Roland-Garros
Three-time winner in Paris (2016, 2021 and 2023), Djokovic will compete in the Paris Grand Slam for the 22nd consecutive time since his very first appearance 21 years ago in 2005.
He thus becomes the record holder for the most appearances in the tournament, tying Richard Gasquet, who retired last year at Porte d'Auteuil. He moves ahead of Feliciano Lopez and Stan Wawrinka, who both have 21.
Djokovic also shows astonishing consistency at Roland-Garros. Since 2010 inclusive, the man with 24 Grand Slams has always reached at least the quarterfinals on the Parisian clay. He will also begin his tournament this Sunday evening, playing the first evening session of the fortnight against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
