The primary way major tournaments generate revenue is through advertisements, qualifying with a sponsorship is one form of advertising. One way for a company to advertise is by paying a player to wear their apparel, play with their rackets, wear their logo on their clothing, drink their water, etc. So it seems to me the top players who get filthy rich from lucrative sponsorships aren't that much different than the tournament organizers.
