Carlos Alcaraz is aiming for a place in the quarter-finals in Rotterdam. Following his three-set victory over Botic van de Zandschulp, the Spaniard, seeded number 1 in the Netherlands, now takes on Andrea Vavassori.

At the start of the match, the Italian's ambition was to hit the ball hard to neutralize Alcaraz's power.

With a fast, deep return of serve, he took the upper hand in the exchange and sought to close out the point at the net.

However, he was not to be outdone by the ingenuity of his opponent, who hit behind the back to force Vavassori into a smash.

But Alcaraz anticipated the smash and finished in style with a backhand along the line to confirm her break (see video below).
