Alcaraz one win away from securing year-end No. 1: Spaniard close to achieving a new goal
Carlos Alcaraz has secured a second win in as many matches at the 2025 ATP Finals and is closing in on one of his season-ending goals.
Alcaraz struggled, but ultimately prevailed over Taylor Fritz at the Turin Masters. Eliminated in the group stage last year, the Spaniard defeated the American (6-7, 7-5, 6-3 in 2h47) and moved closer to qualifying for the semi-finals.
After beating Alex De Minaur on Sunday, Alcaraz will need to defeat Lorenzo Musetti on Thursday to secure the year-end world No. 1 ranking, regardless of the tournament's outcome.
The 22-year-old player, a semi-finalist two years ago, is still seeking his first ATP Finals title and is very close to reaching the semi-finals for the second time in his career.
If he succeeds against the Italian in two days, he will be guaranteed to finish the 2025 season at the top of the rankings, a feat he already accomplished in 2022, the year he won his first major titles (Miami and Madrid Masters 1000, US Open title).
