"I would be lying if I said I was happy": Sinner's confession about Alcaraz's trophy
In a press conference after his victory against Shelton in Turin (6-3, 7-6), Jannik Sinner reacted to the World No. 1 trophy received by his rival Alcaraz.
"I am happy for him, but I would be lying if I told you I was very happy. But he deserves it, he had an incredible season: he won two Grand Slams, eight tournaments. He plays at a very high level and is competitive on any surface.
He had the pressure too, he handled it very well, but I am happy for him. He is a very good guy, he has an excellent team around him and he deserved this reward. For me, it is motivation for next year. If another player had to finish number 1, I would still choose him, he deserves it."
While the Italian was very respectful as usual, there is no doubt that he will be intent on dethroning the Spaniard in 2026.
