Alcaraz and Fritz Comment on Djokovic: Unprecedented Uncertainty on the Eve of the ATP Finals
With less than 24 hours until the start of the ATP Finals, the list of participants is still not finalized. This unprecedented situation is due to the final that Lorenzo Musetti will play in Athens against Novak Djokovic.
The Italian, 9th in the Race, must win to snatch the last available ticket, while Djokovic has been sowing doubt about his participation since the beginning of the week.
Therefore, only six players (Alcaraz, Sinner, Fritz, Zverev, Shelton, and De Minaur) were present yesterday during the Media Day. Journalists obviously took the time to question them about Djokovic's potential absence.
Fritz: "It's his decision. Obviously, when someone is undecided, nobody knows if he will play or not. It creates some inconveniences, but in my opinion, he has earned that right because he is qualified."
Alcaraz: "He has the right to do it. He has played this tournament and won it for so many years. Of course, for the organizers and everything else, it's not ideal. It's not a good situation, but it's his choice. We have to deal with it and accept it."
First consequence of this suspense created by Djokovic in the Connors group: Alcaraz will start tomorrow against De Minaur, while Fritz will have to wait until Monday to play his first match.
