Fonseca: "If someone had told me I would one day play against Alcaraz, I would never have believed it"
Two years ago, he was hovering around the 700th spot in the world. Today, Fonseca is ranked 24th in the ATP and has already faced the very best in the world. A progression he dreamed of, but which is now very real.
"I would never have imagined it. I should be in school normally. So, yes, I am very happy with what is happening in my life right now. Everything I have experienced over this past year and a half is incredible. I was just a kid, playing in the juniors and trying to become a professional tennis player.
Then I got good results and decided not to go to university. And now I am here, world number 24, and I won a big tournament a few weeks ago. I am very happy with how my career is progressing and I hope to continue like this."
For the record, Fonseca has already claimed two major titles on the tour: the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires last February and the ATP 500 in Basel in October.
