Sinner or Alcaraz: Who Will Finish the Year as No. 1? The Various Scenarios for Turin
Thanks to his victory at the Rolex Paris Masters, Jannik Sinner returns to the throne… but only for a week. The final battle with Carlos Alcaraz will take place in Turin, and each scenario comes with its own share of twists and turns.
By winning the Rolex Paris Masters for the first time in his career, Jannik Sinner has reignited the battle for the world No. 1 spot against Carlos Alcaraz. Thanks to his triumph in Paris, the Italian will return to the top of the ATP rankings this Monday… but only for a week.
Indeed, Sinner will be defending 1500 points as the defending champion at the Masters, while Alcaraz will only have 200 points to defend. The Spaniard, who has led the ATP rankings since his triumph at the US Open, therefore holds all the cards to finish the year on top.
Here are the different possible scenarios:
- If Sinner defends his title in Turin undefeated, Alcaraz will need at least three wins to reclaim the world No. 1 spot, or reach the final with one or two wins in the group stage.
- If Sinner wins the Masters with one loss, Alcaraz will need to win two matches.
- If Sinner wins with two losses, just one victory will be enough for Alcaraz to regain the world No. 1 spot.
The Turin Masters is shaping up to be the ultimate stage of a season largely defined by the rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner.
