Vacherot calms things down after his Shanghai triumph: No question of burning out

After an unexpectedly won Masters 1000, Vacherot chooses caution. For now, the Monegasque is only registered for one tournament before the end of the season.

Valentin Vacherot's epic run in Shanghai will remain one of the most unforgettable moments of the 2025 season. Ranked 204th in the world and a last-minute entry into the qualifiers, the Monegasque played the tennis of his life to win his first ATP Tour title.

Now crowned with a Masters 1000, Vacherot will also be able to benefit from his new ranking. Tomorrow he will be ranked 40th, which will allow him to play all the major tournaments during the 2026 season.

Interviewed on the show Bartoli Time on RMC, the native of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin discussed what lies ahead for him for the remainder of the season.

"For the record, I had mostly planned to play five tournaments (in Asia). Start with Shanghai, then play four Challengers. I couldn't play the first one because I made it to the second week here.

After the victory against Holger Rune, we decided that there was no point in going to burn out on the Challengers afterwards, that 'no matter what, we're going home.'

It was important to just enjoy what I accomplished this week. Obviously, after the victory, it's a no-brainer. For the upcoming events, all the entry lists came out 3-4 weeks ago.

Playing all those tournaments is a dream, but it won't be up to me; it will depend a bit more on the tournament organizers. The only one I'm sure I'll play is the one in Athens, where I had time to register for the qualifiers."
