Caroline Garcia made it through the 1st round of the WTA 1000 in Doha on Sunday, beating world No. 55 Yue Yuan.
Accompanied by her fiancé during the tournament, the Frenchwoman spoke to L'Equipe about her desire to continue without the presence of a coach in her team, for the time being:
"I'm going to carry on like this for the time being. It's a time when I really need to understand why I do things.
I want to do them differently than before. I need this freedom. In these somewhat complicated moments, he (her fiancé) helps me, he listens to me, he guides me in my reflections and gives me confidence.
I don't want to be parasitized by outside language focused on the competition. When I think clearly, when I'm calm, I often manage to find the solution.
If, as the tournaments go on, I see that there's something going on technically, that I need an outside opinion, I'll take it. But for the moment, I'm happy to carry on like this.
