Swiatek: "Winning titles doesn't always depend on yourself".
Iga Swiatek is present at the WTA 1000 tournament in Doha. She makes her first appearance this Monday against Maria Sakkari.
This tournament could see the Pole return to world number one.
To do so, she needs to win the tournament, or reach the final and Sabalenka loses in the semi-finals or before, or lose in the semi-finals and Sabalenka doesn't reach the quarter-finals.
Swiatek hasn't won a title since the French Open in 2024. But for her, this is not a foregone conclusion.
She told a press conference: "I know how this sport works and I understand that winning titles doesn't always depend on yourself.
The key is to give 100% on and off the court, in terms of effort and commitment. If I can do that, opportunities and a good level in my tennis will come.
I've always been able to find solutions. The conditions here are tough, but I've found a way to stay focused and adapt well."
