Rest Before the Final Dance: Monfils Announces End of His 2025 Season

Gaël Monfils, who will retire at the end of next year at the age of 40, will not play again in 2025.
World No. 65 Monfils announced a major decision in early October.

The Frenchman will end his career at the end of next year, after more than twenty years of entertaining on the ATP tour. The last active player of the Four Musketeers has decided to hang up his racket next year at the age of 40. And for the occasion, Monfils, winner of 13 titles on the tour, wants to approach the most important tournaments in top form.

After a very high-quality start to the season marked by a trophy in Auckland, "La Monf," as he is nicknamed, gradually decreased in intensity and is currently on a streak of five consecutive defeats since his first-round victory at Wimbledon against his compatriot Ugo Humbert.

Injured in the ankle against Alexander Shevchenko in Chengdu on September 18, Monfils has not reappeared in official competition since. But it will be a while before we see the Frenchman back on the courts. Indeed, in recent hours, Monfils announced on his Twitch channel that he is ending his 2025 season.

He will therefore not be present for the first edition of the Paris Masters 1000 held at La Défense Arena from October 27 to November 2, while confirming that he wishes to play the final match of his career in the French capital in the autumn of 2026.
