"It's difficult to be at the top every day," Alcaraz reflects on his loss to Norrie in Paris

It's difficult to be at the top every day, Alcaraz reflects on his loss to Norrie in Paris

Present at the ATP Finals in Turin, Carlos Alcaraz is coming off a loss to Cameron Norrie in the second round of the Paris Masters 1000. Before starting his tournament in the Italian city, the Spaniard looked back on his performance against the Brit.

Alcaraz has had an excellent season. The world number 2 has won two Grand Slams (Roland-Garros and the US Open), also playing in the Wimbledon final against Jannik Sinner.

The player, who has won eight titles this season, however, is coming off a loss to Cameron Norrie right from his first match at the Paris Masters 1000, a tournament that has so far never gone well for him. Before competing in the ATP Finals in Turin, the 22-year-old player reflected on this loss during which he committed 54 unforced errors throughout the match.

"In the end, I was in a very good run of form, but tennis is match after match, day after day. It's difficult to be at the top and perfect every day. A match like the one against Norrie could happen. I was facing a player who played very well.

I thought I couldn't do anything. It happened, that's the way it is. I didn't overthink it, I just went back to training, I continued to do what I had to do and I feel very good.

The criticism after the match, it's normal. It's strange to come from nine consecutive finals with a very high level of tennis and, suddenly, to have a match where I make 54 unforced errors.

People are surprised and I am also a bit surprised. In the end, that's sport and that's tennis. As I said, a match like that can happen," assured Alcaraz in an interview with Marca.
