Townsend on Keys: "I can't express how happy I am for her".

Townsend on Keys: I can't express how happy I am for her.

Taylor Townsend, current world no. 3 in women's doubles and winner of the Australian Open doubles title, had this to say about her compatriot Madison Keys.

The two are good friends and were fortunate enough to win the Australian Open in their respective categories.

Townsend says: "I've spent many weekends at Madison's house, even at this last tournament, and we've shared many nights together.

Honestly, I can't express how happy I am for her. The first Grand Slam is always a great thing, you feel a sense of relief.

She was close before. Somehow, overcoming that barrier always means something immense.

I remember when she injured herself at Wimbledon last year and had to retire, I saw her in the dressing room and hugged her.

She cried a lot on my shoulder. These are moments when you don't know what's going to happen; she thought she'd torn her hamstring, which caused her a lot of uncertainty.

As a friend, I'm sincerely happy to have seen her overcome so many difficulties.

I can't express what I feel in words, she has definitely inspired me."
