Rune's Nightmare in Stockholm: Achilles Tendon Rupture Confirmed

The worst-case scenario has been confirmed for Holger Rune. Injured during the semifinals in Stockholm, the Danish player is suffering from an Achilles tendon rupture. His mother made the terrible news official: "They can see the injury with the naked eye."
At 22 years old, Holger Rune is about to face one of the most difficult periods of his career. Well into his semifinal match in Stockholm (he was leading 6-4, 2-2 against Ugo Humbert), the world number 11 came to an abrupt stop during a routine exchange.
On his bench, Rune broke down in tears and revealed his suspicion to the ATP physio: he believed he had suffered an Achilles tendon rupture. Unfortunately, this serious injury was confirmed moments later in the tournament's locker room.
The media outlet Tipsbladet obtained words from Aneke Rune on the matter: "They are absolutely certain. Of course, Holger is devastated. They say they can see the injury with the naked eye."
After returning to the top 10 this year, reaching the final at Indian Wells, and winning the Barcelona tournament against Carlos Alcaraz, Rune will undoubtedly miss the entire 2026 season and will have to start over from scratch.
For comparison, French player Lucas Pouille suffered the same injury earlier this season and plans to return next year.
