End of career for Schwartzman, beaten by Martinez in Buenos Aires

Diego Schwartzman's career came to an end when he was beaten by Pedro Martinez (6-2, 6-2) in the 2nd round of the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires on Thursday.

After an almost 3-hour victory over Nicolas Jarry yesterday, the Argentine was unable to keep up physically and quickly found himself 5-0 down in the first set, before breaking to win his first game of the match.

Still struggling at the start of the second set, Schwartzman tried to get back into the match, winning a break point at 3-2 but failing to convert it.

After that, he was punished by conceding his service game once again, leaving Martinez the opportunity to close out the match in style.

Diego Schwartzman thus ended his professional tennis career in front of his home crowd in Buenos Aires.

Known as El Peque, he won four titles on the ATP circuit, reached world No. 8 in 2020 and contested the Masters as well as a semi-final at Roland Garros that same year.

Pedro Martinez, who has qualified for the quarter-finals in Buenos Aires, awaits the winner of the match between Lorenzo Musetti and Corentin Moutet.
