Fonseca saves two match points to reach the semi-finals in Buenos Aires
Joao Fonseca continues to make waves this week at the Buenos Aires tournament, having qualified for the last four after a narrow victory over Mariano Navone (3-6, 6-4, 7-5) in 2h45.
Already in trouble yesterday against Federico Coria, the young Brazilian once again drew on his resources to defeat a tough opponent, who had two match points at 5-3, 40-15 in the third set.
After saving them, including one with a powerful backhand along the line (see video below), Fonseca revived the machine and went on to win four games in a row to celebrate, on his knees, a victory that was almost unhoped-for.
Ranked 82nd in the world at best next Monday, he became the first player born in 2006 to reach an ATP semi-final.
Tomorrow, he will face Laslo Djere, who beat Thiago Seyboth Wild earlier in the day (7-6, 6-3).
