Gracheva Advances to Second Round in Tokyo by Defeating Wang

Varvara Gracheva, who came through the qualifiers in Tokyo, faced Xinyu Wang. The Chinese player had been on a five-match losing streak and hadn't won since the US Open last August.
The match started well for the Frenchwoman with a break in her favor in the sixth game. However, she lost her serve immediately afterward and collapsed, losing 16 of the 17 points played after her break.
The second set began in line with the end of the first set, with an opening break for Wang. But Gracheva didn't let herself be discouraged and fought her way back into the match, winning the second set 6-3.
The deciding set was tightly contested between the two players, with four breaks in the first four games. Ultimately, the Frenchwoman gained the upper hand in the ninth game and secured the victory 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
She will face Belinda Bencic in the second round.
