Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the semifinals by defeating Brandon Nakashima (6-2, 6-4) on the fifth day of the ATP 500 in Tokyo.
With this victory, the world number 1 has reached his 9th consecutive semifinal (excluding team competitions) on the ATP Tour. This impressive number places him just behind the legendary members of the Big 3 (a statistic taken into account since 1990).
In his debut in Japan, the 22-year-old player also became the first Spaniard to reach this stage of the competition since Almagro in 2013.
Set to face Casper Ruud for a spot in the final, the native of El Palmar could become the fourth player to reach the final of a main tour tournament for the ninth consecutive time (since 1990).
