A Chinese Player Suspended for 12 Years by the ITIA for Match-Fixing
The ITIA has been striking hard in recent days. The International Tennis Integrity Agency recently announced that Quentin Folliot, a French professional player, has been suspended for twenty years due to match-fixing.
In the last few hours, the ITIA has also decided to heavily sanction Pang Renlong, a 25-year-old Chinese player, for the same reason. A year ago, on December 18, 2024, the body already announced that Renlong was provisionally suspended due to the "possibility of a major breach of the anti-corruption program."
He who has not played a single match this year now knows his sanction: the Chinese player, guilty of fixing or attempting to corrupt 22 matches between May and September 2024, is suspended from the professional circuit for twelve years, and he also faces a fine of $110,000 (of which $70,000 is suspended), as announced by the ITIA in a statement.
Heavy Sanction Imposed by the ITIA on Pang Renlong
"Pang, aged 25, admitted to fixing five of his own singles matches at ITF World Tennis Tour M15, M25, and ATP Challenger 50 tournaments, in addition to attempting 17 times to corrupt other professional players, resulting in the fixing of six other matches.
Pang, who reached his career-high singles ranking in November 2024 (1316th), accepted a sanction agreed upon with the ITIA and waived his right to a hearing before an independent anti-corruption hearing officer.
The duration of the provisional suspension will be deducted from the player's period of ineligibility. Suspended provisionally since November 7, 2024, Pang will see his suspension end on November 6, 2036, subject to payment of the remaining fines.
During the period of ineligibility, Pang is not allowed to play, coach, or attend any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by ITIA members (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, French Tennis Federation, Wimbledon, and USTA) or any national association," can be read on the body's website.
