According to information obtained by Eurosport, Frances Tiafoe has only been fined twice for insulting a chair umpire at the Shanghai Masters 1000.
The ATP, which has not yet made the information public, has apparently decided to impose a financial penalty on the American, with the first fine for "verbal abuse" amounting to $60,000.
As a reminder, Tiafoe had insulted the chair umpire following his 3rd-round loss in Shanghai to Roman Safiullin after taking a penalty point for going over time on serve (see video below).
And the ATP decided to impose a second fine of $60,000 for "aggravated behavior". These two sanctions may seem light, given that the circuit's rules mention the possibility of a minimum 21-day suspension in the event of "violent behaviour".
Tiafoe could also have been disqualified from this match by the ATP, which would have resulted in the loss of his points and prize money.
