Mpetshi Perricard topples Tiafoe and confirms his new status!

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard qualified for the second round of the Rolex Paris Masters 2024 on Monday (see video highlights below). Greatly supported by the French fans on Centre Court, he beat Frances Tiafoe, ranked 17th in the world, in two hours and three sets (6-7, 7-6, 6-3).
The Frenchman, now ranked 31st in the world at the age of 21, further confirmed his new status, two days after winning the most important tournament of his career in Basel (ATP 500), and one week after making his debut in the Top 50 of the ATP rankings.
Against Tiafoe, he was once again untouchable on his serve, conceding just two break points (in the 3rd game of the 3rd set), both of which he saved with authority. His nerves were also solid, as he continued to play his tennis with confidence despite losing the first set.
Mpetshi Perricard will now face the winner of the big battle between Karen Khachanov and Christopher O'Connell on court no. 2 in a bid to reach the last 16.
