Sinner: "It's a virus. I still feel very, very weak (video)"
Jannik Sinner has been forced to withdraw from the 2024 edition of the Rolex Paris Masters. He announced this late Tuesday morning that he was suffering from a virus, even though he was due to play his first match on Wednesday.
The world No. 1 explained that he was too weak to play in the coming days, and that his aim now was to be 100% ready for the ATP Finals, which begin on November 10 in Turin.
Jannik Sinner (see video below): "It's a very difficult announcement, obviously. I won't be playing here in Paris (this year). We came here very early to prepare in the best possible way.
After the first training session, I really wasn't feeling well. I also spoke to the doctor on Sunday. It's a virus that makes you feel better in three or four days.
Today, I'm already feeling a bit better, but the body isn't ready for competition. I still feel very, very weak. So there's no point in going out there and trying to compete in this tournament.
I'm very disappointed because it's a tournament where I'd have liked to see where my level is. It was one of my main objectives for this week. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do it.
The most important thing now is to recover and get back to 100% physically. Maybe in the next three or four days I'll feel better and be able to start training again.
Of course, the main objective will be Turin (ATP Finals, November 10-17). For now, it's much more important to see how I feel over the next few days. After that, I hope to be ready for Turin."
