Alcaraz and Auger-Aliassime back to back in Olympic semi-final (3-3)
This semi-final will not necessarily be a thriller, as the difference in level, at least on paper, seems to be significant.
In an unexpected duel, the two protagonists do not seem to have the same chances of winning, although only the law of the field will tell the truth.
This duel will be the 7th in their rivalry and, for the moment, the two men are tied (3-3).
In the Grand Slam, the two men have faced each other twice, with one victory each. Alcaraz won at the French Open this year (6-3, 6-3, 6-1), while the Canadian took advantage of his opponent's withdrawal at the 2021 US Open in the quarter-finals (6-3, 3-1 ab.).
As for their most recent head-to-heads, the advantage is clearly in the hands of the current world No.3, as he remains on a three-match winning streak. Prior to Roland Garros, "Carlito" won at Indian Wells in 2023 (6-4, 6-4) and this year (6-2, 6-3).
The only cause for hope for the Canadian was that he had won his first three meetings with him, all on hard court. In addition to the New York match, Auger-Aliassime had also won twice in 2022, in the Davis Cup (6-7, 6-4, 6-2) and in Basel (6-3, 6-2).
In the light of this history, and although Auger-Aliassime has already demonstrated his ability to counter the El Palmar native's game, the psychological advantage clearly seems to be on the 21-year-old's side.
To be confirmed on the court.
