Auger-Aliassime reaches the semi-finals!
Few people expected Félix Auger-Aliassime to go so far at these Olympic Games. Having already defeated Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16 (6-3, 7-6), he has just upset Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals (6-4, 6-7, 6-3) to book his place in the last four.
Excellent on serve and very aggressive in the exchange, the Canadian suffered, but prevailed. A cut above his opponent throughout the match, he was cruelly lacking in realism, winning just 3 of the 16 break points he had.
On the other hand, the world number 9 was very opportunistic (1 break point converted out of 1) and came very close to winning against the run of play.
In the end, the day's logic was respected and Auger-Aliassime joins Alcaraz in the semi-finals.
