Alcaraz equalises for Spain, Nadal not yet retired
Spain and the Netherlands are tied 1-1 in the first quarter-final of this Davis Cup 2024. After Rafael Nadal's defeat by Botic Van de Zandschulp (6-4, 6-4), Carlos Alcaraz came from behind to beat Tallon Griekspoor (7-6, 6-3) and bring his country level.
However, things didn't start perfectly for the world No.3, who was broken by Griekspoor in the 6th game of the match. But he was able to make up the deficit in the next game, and then proved extremely strong right to the end. In particular, he won the tie-break of the first set without dropping a single point.
A decisive doubles match will now be played between the two nations. It will pit Alcaraz and Marcel Granollers against Van de Zandschulp and Wesley Koolhof. A match far from a foregone conclusion for the Spaniards against the very solid Dutch pair.
