Alcaraz: "I Want to Sit at the Same Table as the Big 3"
In a Netflix documentary summarizing his 2024 season, Carlos Alcaraz revealed his ambitions. Already a four-time Grand Slam champion and the youngest world No. 1 after the 2022 US Open, the Spaniard—alongside Jannik Sinner—has taken over the mantle from the Big 3 of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic.
These three players dominated the majority of major titles for two decades, but that era is nearing its end, especially after the retirements of Nadal and Federer.
In any case, Alcaraz not only wants to follow in the footsteps of the three legends but also aims to match or even surpass their achievements, as he himself stated in his series, which was released on April 23 on the platform.
"My dream is to be one of the greatest players in history. Yes, I want to sit at the same table as the Big 3. Am I in the mindset to do whatever it takes and face everything to achieve that?
Right now, I don’t know. I’m still young, and I have a lot more to experience. But based on what I’ve lived through, I know I’d rather be happy than achieve great success, because happiness is already a great success—and it’s not easy to find."
Nadal, who also appears in the documentary, reflects on what it takes to win over 20 Grand Slams: "To accomplish what Roger, Novak, and I have done, you have to feel that the sacrifices are worth it and that they’ll pay off sooner or later. If you think you’re making too many sacrifices, you won’t make it—that’s for sure—because you’ll burn out too quickly."
