Alcaraz talks about his new service: "We knew it was something that needed to be improved".
Carlos Alcaraz kicks off the Australian Open on Tuesday against Alexander Shevchenko in the 1st round.
For this 2025 season, the world No.3 worked during the pre-season on one of the areas of his game where he still needed to improve: his serve. His movement was modified, as was his ball delivery, to improve fluidity.
At a press conference, Alcaraz revealed the details of these changes, which we'll be able to observe next week when he takes to the court:
"We knew it was something that needed to be improved, we had to do something. This new movement is a little more relaxed and casual in the wrist.
What we're looking for is more rhythm, no stopping in the movement when I'm reaching the top with the racket, so that everything goes more smoothly.
I think that's going to help. When you play more relaxed during a match, you avoid other things like nervousness or physical problems.
We'll see how well it works, but you always have to change certain things, you can never be satisfied with what you've got."
