Alcaraz, Third Player to Pass the First Round of His First 19 Grand Slams
Alcaraz made his return to the courts after his title in Cincinnati. Facing American Opelka in his debut at the US Open, the Spanish genius won 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.
At 22 years old, the native of El Palmar hopes to win the trophy in New York once again and secure the sixth Grand Slam title of his career.
In the meantime, Alcaraz has become the third player since the start of the Open Era to have successfully passed the first round of his first 19 Grand Slam tournaments. He ranks behind Swedish player Borg (27). It is worth noting that his compatriot and idol, Nadal, clearly dominates this podium with 34 victories in his first 34 Grand Slam opening rounds.
Winner here in 2022 (the first Major of his career), Alcaraz will face Bellucci in the second round. If he were to reach the final at Flushing Meadows, it would simply be his eighth final in the last eight tournaments he has played, as well as his ninth this season.
