Alcaraz undefeated at the US Open after winning the first set
The men's singles final at the US Open between defending champion Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz started 30 minutes late but is now well underway on Arthur Ashe Court.
Impressive in the first set, the Spaniard, winner of the 2022 edition at Flushing Meadows, lost only three points on his serve and cruised through, hitting 11 winners with just 2 unforced errors in 37 minutes.
Alcaraz took the first set 6-2 and is now just two sets away from winning the tournament for the second time. Moreover, the world number 2 has never lost in New York after winning the first set: 21 wins and no losses.
Forced to retire in the quarterfinals of the 2021 edition against Auger-Aliassime (6-3, 3-1 ret.), he was defeated by Medvedev in the semifinals two years later (7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3), and then in three sets in the second round last year against van de Zandschulp (6-1, 7-5, 6-4).
However, caution is advised for Alcaraz, as in the last three Grand Slam meetings between Alcaraz and Sinner, the player who won the first set has always ended up losing (Roland Garros 2024, Roland Garros 2025, and Wimbledon 2025).
