An Encouraging Second Round at Queen's for Raducanu, New British No. 1
Raducanu faced Sramkova in the second round of the Queen’s tournament.
After a thunderous start to lead 5-0, 40-15, Raducanu gave herself a scare as her opponent fought back to 5-3. Nevertheless, she regained her composure, firmly holding serve to take the lead (1 set to 0).
The second set began much like the first, with Raducanu dominant and comfortable on the London grass. Without difficulty, she made quick work of the Slovakian player, sealing the match in 1 hour and 16 minutes with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
Invited by the tournament organizers, she had previously eliminated Spain’s Bucsa in the first round and will now face the winner of the match between Zheng and Kessler in the quarterfinals. The 22-year-old, now the new British No. 1 in the rankings, continues her impressive run on grass, having reached the Round of 16 at her home tournament, Wimbledon, last year.
