Andreeva Defeats Frech and Advances to the Round of 16 in Madrid
At the start of the third round in Madrid, the Russians are making their presence known. After Diana Shnaider's swift qualification against Anastasija Sevastova, Mirra Andreeva secured her own spot in the Round of 16 in the Spanish capital.
Following a convincing performance in the previous round against Marie Bouzkova (6-3, 6-4), the tournament's seventh seed confirmed her form with a straight-sets victory over Magdalena Frech (7-5, 6-3), the world No. 27.
Already a two-time champion in this tournament category this year—first in Dubai and then in Indian Wells—the young player, who will turn 18 at the end of April, continues her journey in Madrid.
Despite a slight lapse at the end of the first set, Andreeva quickly regained focus to win the last two games and take the lead. A quick break in the second set then allowed her to control the closing stages of the match. In her next match, she will face either Liudmila Samsonova or Yuliia Starodubtseva.
