Anna Chakvetadze warns: "The WTA tour is more homogeneous... but less creative"
Is the WTA tour more homogeneous than in the past? That's at least what former player Anna Chakvetadze feels.
Speaking to Tennis 365, the Russian gave an overview of the women's tour, mentioning a more homogeneous WTA and athletes who clearly stand out.
"I would like to see more creative players again"
"I have the impression that the WTA tour has become generally more homogeneous today. Of course, there are players who clearly stand out thanks to their physical and athletic qualities.
Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff are all exceptional and very interesting players to watch. But overall, the tour seems more balanced than before.
At the same time, I would say it has become a bit less varied in terms of playing styles compared to my era. Has the tour become more physical? That's possible. But it seems especially more homogeneous.
Personally, I would like to see more creative players again, more variety in styles, and more individuality on the tour."
