Another Major Withdrawal in Shanghai: Dimitrov Also Pulls Out
The Bulgarian had hoped to return to competition after withdrawing from the US Open but will have to wait a bit longer.
Grigor Dimitrov will have to postpone his return to competition once again. Injured in the pectoral muscles during his Wimbledon round of 16 match against Jannik Sinner, the Bulgarian, while on the road to recovery, is not yet willing to take any risks and prefers to remain cautious.
Now 34 years old, the world No. 28 has withdrawn from the Shanghai Masters, which begins on October 1st. A semifinalist in China two years ago, Dimitrov will miss the Shanghai tournament for the first time since 2019 (the 2020, 2021, and 2022 editions did not take place due to the health situation).
Following this withdrawal, David Goffin benefits by qualifying for the main draw without having to go through the qualifying rounds. Dimitrov is the fourth player to officially withdraw from the 2025 edition, after Jack Draper, Tommy Paul, and Arthur Fils.
