This Monday, October 27th, on the central court of La Défense Arena, Arthur Cazaux gave the French public its first major thrill of the tournament.
The 23-year-old from Montpellier defeated Luciano Darderi, ranked 27th in the world, after a tight match. The result: 2 hours and 7 minutes of play, two perfectly managed tie-breaks (7-6(5), 7-6(4)), and a qualification for the tournament's second round.
As a wild card entry, Arthur Cazaux thus made a successful debut in the Paris Masters 1000. For the record, he had reached the third round last year (defeated 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 by Rune).
Next challenge: the winner of the match between Valentin Royer and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
