Aryna Sabalenka, the Invisible Revolution: How Data and Biomechanics Transformed Her Game
In a sport where coaches are sometimes changed faster than rackets, some prefer another path: keeping their main coach while adjusting everything around them. It's no longer about overhauling everything, but optimizing a structure that already works, making it more efficient and durable.
Aryna Sabalenka had anticipated this evolution long before others.
As early as the 2021 offseason, after reaching world No. 2, the Belarusian brought data specialist Shane Liyanage into her team, tasked with analyzing her game and that of her opponents. An invisible but essential work in her rise to power.
A biomechanics expert to transform her serve
Then, in 2022, faced with a failing serve (428 double faults in the season), Sabalenka turned to biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan, who helped her deeply rebuild her technique.
The result: a major technical transformation, now considered one of the decisive turning points in her career.
Thanks to these choices made during the offseasons, Sabalenka has gradually established herself as one of the most complete players on the tour, a four-time Grand Slam champion and comfortably settled at the top of the WTA rankings.
