At Roland-Garros, Blanchet creates a feat, Pouille powerless
While Ugo Blanchet pulled off the feat of the day in Paris, Lucas Pouille walked out the front door.
Faced with the number one seed in his qualifying draw, Chile's Christian Garin, Ugo Blanchet, ranked 158th, pulled off the feat of winning. It was an unexpected result, but the very aggressive Frenchman outwitted the former world No. 17 (6-4, 4-6, 6-1 in 2h04). With a perfect match (34 winners), he created the first sensation of the tournament and opened up the draw. He is now two matches away from a place in the main draw at Roland-Garros. Stay tuned!
Unfortunately, Lucas Pouille did not enjoy the same success. As we've known since the draw, there couldn't have been a worse draw for the Frenchman. Faced with Hamad Medjedovic, he simply didn't have the keys. His opponent, a rising star on the world circuit, didn't give him a moment's peace. The 20-year-old Serb, who came close to eliminating Medvedev in Rome, seemed a cut above the rest of the match.
So the magnificent adventure of 2023, when he emerged from the qualifying rounds before reaching the second round of the main draw, will not be repeated for Pouille, who is already bidding farewell to Paris.
