At Roland Garros, Garcia aims to spring a surprise: "I know that my level can enable me to beat any player."
With the exception of the Miami tournament, where she reached the quarter-finals (defeating Osaka and Gauff), Caroline Garcia has had a very disappointing 2024 season. With just 5 wins from 9 matches on clay, she's not progressing as a favourite. Quite simply, since Miami, she hasn't managed to beat a single top seed.
Nevertheless, the Frenchwoman persists in believing in her chances and would like to see herself achieve something big this year. Interviewed at the press conference, she explained that she believes in her abilities: "Given my start to the season and my track record, I know that my level can enable me to beat any player. [...] But can I do it over two weeks? It's a question mark over the last few results. I'm not going to say I'm the favorite, that's for sure, but do I believe in my chances? Yes."
As the standard-bearer of French tennis, a large part of the French public's hopes will rest on her shoulders once again this year. Far from being distraught, Garcia sees this support as an invaluable strength: "It means a lot to me to play here. I have the chance and the opportunity to be on the pitch and to be supported. Obviously, I want to do better every year, to enjoy every moment, because I know that it's a chance to play a Grand Slam at home. I want to receive the support of the public and have a great time with them."
