At the French Open, Atmane can't wait to get started: "All I want to do is play".
Terence Atmane, 22, said he couldn't wait to get his Roland Garros tournament underway. After a very good tournament in Rome, where he racked up 5 wins before stalling in the third round against Dimitrov (7-6, 6-3), the Frenchman wants to enjoy himself in Paris.
In front of his home crowd, he is set to take on Sebastian Ofner this Sunday (in the last rotation, on court 6). Although he won't be the favorite, he hopes to be able to rely on the unconditional support of the Parisian public to achieve a big result. In comments relayed by L'Équipe, he is already enthusiastic: "All I want to do is play. If I could do it tomorrow (Friday), I'd be delighted. There are still a few days to finalize the last adjustments before starting the fortnight. I'm really happy to be here and can't wait for the 1st round.
Sebastian Ofner already beat me once at the Paris Masters last year, and I beat him once at a Challenger in the USA. It's going to be a really fun match, especially at home in front of my home crowd."
Asked about the 1,000-point question of who is the favorite to win the title, he mentioned a name that wasn't necessarily expected: Daniil Medvedev. He declared: "A favourite? I'd like to say me, but I don't think I'm ready yet. I'll put my name down in a few years' time. This year, I see Carlos Alcaraz or, why not, a Daniil Medvedev who could spring a surprise."
