ATP Announces Departure of CEO Massimo Calvelli Five Years After His Appointment

Since the PTPA complaint, the tennis world has undergone major upheavals. Today, the ATP announced the departure of a key figure in its leadership—CEO Massimo Calvelli.
The Italian chief executive took office in January 2020, just before the pandemic began. The 50-year-old was the right-hand man of ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi. He will be replaced by the chairman himself.
"Gaudenzi and Calvelli extended the duration of the Masters 1000, overloaded the calendar, increased player prize money, and altered the commercial strategy, aligning with the WTA on many initiatives.
Many dissenting voices within the ATP have highlighted the excessive influence of Italy, with numerous power positions held by Italians and decisions allegedly favoring their compatriots," reports Punto De Break.
