ATP President backs return of five-set Masters 1000 finals

Interviewed in the middle of the Masters, Andrea Gaudenzi shared his views on the Masters 1000.

These tournaments, of which there are nine throughout the season, underwent changes in 2023, with some of them (Madrid, Rome, Shanghai) now being played over twelve days.

A contested calendar reform that could be followed by another concerning the format of the finals: "I was talking about it with Roger Federer at the Laver Cup. The greatest matches in history have been played in five sets.

Is there a possibility of going back to best-of-five sets for Masters 1000 finals? Our decision would be yes.

Not right away, but we can't have a sport, where 30 years from now, nobody remembers the most important matches."
