Auger-Aliassime Edges Past Shelton in Thriller at ATP Finals
Having lost to Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner respectively, Ben Shelton and Felix Auger-Aliassime faced off to claim their first victory of these ATP Finals.
The first set went the American's way. Although he suffered a break back, he managed to seize his opponent's serve again in the 10th game to take the first set 6-4.
Despite a break point for Shelton, the second set headed to a tie-break. Although the American managed to save two set points on the Canadian's serve, it was Auger-Aliassime who ultimately won the tie-break 9-7.
In the fourth game of the final set, the Canadian missed two break points. Then, just as the two players seemed to be heading for another tie-break, Auger-Aliassime converted his third match point on Shelton's serve, on a first serve clocked at 236 km/h.
He therefore wins 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 and will play for qualification in his next match against Alexander Zverev.
