Australia overcomes the United States to reach the Davis Cup semi-finals!
Thanks to Jordan Thompson and Matthew Ebden's doubles win over Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton (6-4, 6-4), Australia beat the USA (2-1) to reach the last four of the Davis Cup.
After the victories of Thanasi Kokkinakis and Taylor Fritz, who each brought their teams a point, it was the doubles' turn to decide the fate of the match.
The American team, which could count on an experienced doubles team in Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram, ended up relying on two singles players: Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton were lined up together at the last minute by captain Bob Bryan.
Up against Jordan Thompson and Matthew Ebden, two players who were present at the Masters last week (with different partners), Paul and Shelton were logically defeated in two sets, with just one break opportunity during the match.
The win sees Australia progress to the semi-finals of the competition for the third year running.
They will face the winner of today's quarter-final between Argentina and Italy.
