Australian Open: an uncertain wild-card for Kyrgios
Nick Kyrgios hopes to make his return to the ATP tour. The Australian had already attempted a comeback during the 2025 season and therefore no longer has a protected ranking for the Australian Open.
He must therefore rely on a wild-card if he wants to go to Melbourne. However, this allocation is far from a formality. The tournament director, Craig Tiley, who is also the president of Tennis Australia, had been relatively evasive about a possible wild-card.
Tensions between Kyrgios and Tiley
As reported by L'Équipe, the relationship between the two men is not at its best, particularly due to his recurring comments about Jannik Sinner or his refusal to defend the yellow and green colors in the Davis Cup in 2022, in favor of an exhibition.
For now, 5 of the 8 available wild-cards have already been awarded.
