Australian Open Qualifying: Mayot & Blanchet Out, Grenier Advances to Second Round
On Tuesday, the first round of Australian Open qualifying concluded. Ugo Blanchet faced a tough draw against Coleman Wong, who was coming off two impressive wins last week in Hong Kong against Gabriel Diallo and Mariano Navone.
The Frenchman failed to create any break point opportunities and lost 6-3, 7-6. Meanwhile, Harold Mayot took on the experienced Jason Kubler. Broken early in each set, the Metz native could never recover, with only one break point in the entire match, which he failed to convert. He fell 6-3, 6-4.
Two French Players Qualify
Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg experienced a similar fate, defeated by Tomas Barrios Vera 6-2, 7-6.
Two French players emerged victorious from this first round: Hugo Grenier advanced by retirement against Daniel Galan, and Arthur Gea beat Zdenek Kolar 6-2, 6-3.
They will face Mackenzie McDonald and Roman Burruchaga, respectively, in the next round.
