Badosa: "I was a complete disaster, I'd never done that before."
Paula Badosa missed out on her quarter-final against Emma Navarro this Tuesday at the US Open (6-2, 7-5). Despite leading 5-1 in the second set, the Spaniard explained that she never had a good feeling in the match. She ended up losing the last 6 games, scoring just 5 of the last 29 points played. She was dejected at the press conference.
Paula Badosa:
"I was a complete disaster. I never had the momentum in this match. It was 5-1 (for her in the 2nd set), but I never felt good on court. I didn't feel good on serve or at the back of the court. That's normally my greatest strength. So I think I was surprised today.
I think losing a set when I was leading 5-1, I'd never done that before. There's always a first time for everything, so it had to happen today, unfortunately. I lost 20 points almost in a row (at the end of the match). It's very strange.
When I started in Washington, I would have signed up for all these results (three months ago, she was almost on the verge of retirement due to a persistent back injury).
But now I have to wait four months for the next Grand Slam, so it sucks. When you feel so bad, with such negative thoughts, you feel like leaving because in the end you become an ant."
