Baez first to qualify for Rio final
ATP 500 Rio titleholder Sebastian Baez has reached the final of the event after beating compatriot Camilo Ugo Carabelli (3-6, 6-1, 6-1) in 1h44 of play.
Ugo Carabelli, who was a lucky loser, played a perfect first set, giving Baez no respite as he quickly found himself behind.
But the trend was completely reversed in the next two sets, with Baez gradually regaining his sensations against an opponent who seemed to be overtaken by fatigue.
The 31st-ranked player in the world concluded the match with mastery, and is now in the second final of his career in Rio.
Facing Francisco Comesana or Alexandre Müller tomorrow, he could become the first player in the tournament's history to win back-to-back titles.
