Barrère is reborn on Bucharest clay!
Grégoire Barrère seems to be coming back to life on the clay courts of Bucharest. After a very difficult start to the 2024 season (only one win on the ATP Tour before this week), the 30-year-old Frenchman dominated Sebastian Korda on Friday to reach the quarter-finals.
Barrère won in 1h15 and two sets (6-4, 6-4) in a match featuring multiple breaks (10 in 20 games played). Having dropped to 128th in the world rankings, and thus bypassed the qualifiers, he has now won his 4th match on Romanian clay. He hadn't achieved such a series on any circuit since winning the Quimper Challenger in January 2023.
For a place in the semi-finals, the Frenchman will face the winner of the duel between Miomir Kecmanovic and Pedro Martinez.
